About City Life
Our values
Worship
Worship reflects our acknowledgment of God’s perfection and power, our adoration of Him as a person and our willingness to be spiritually transformed by Him. Worshiping together strengthens us as individuals and brings faith, unity and clarity. Our worship of God extends beyond meetings and is a lifestyle of offering ourselves to God for His purposes and plan.
Evangelism
The reason Jesus came to earth was to seek and save the lost Luke 19:10. Any follower of Jeus should do the same! We believe the Church of Jesus has been commissioned and empowered by His Holy Spirit to go and do exactly that. We believe that evangelism should not be an event but a lifestyle of every follower of Jesus being a witness wherever God has planted us.
A Priesthood of believers serving
At Citylife believe that all of God’s people are called to serve. 1 Pet 2:9. Being in a church community, means we all have the opportunity to get involved and together take responsibility for all that God has called and commissioned His church to be and do. Jesus Himself said : Mar 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..” and every follower of Jesus should have the same attitude.
Training & equipping
Part of the role of God’s church is to train and equip every member to be as effective for God as possible. This requires time and devotion. We set a high value to this kind of training and equipping and encourage all the be present and participate in training times. In Mat 28:19&20 the instruction is to go and make disciples of all nations and to teach them to obey all that Jesus has commanded.
Community
Relationally connected and covenantal in partnership, the church is called to work together and love each other deeply from the heart. Although we are all individuals, putting to the good of the whole community above that of our own is part of how we roll. Being honest, respectful and honouring in the way we treat people is what we strive to hold to. Love as describes in 1 Cor 13 is the
Stewardship
God so loved the world that He gave is only Son, this is by far the most generous gift ever given to humanity! Any follower of Jesus carries the same heart. Giving generously with our finances is not only a natural response to God’s love and generosity, but also a part of our worship and stewardship with all that God gives to us. We certainly believe God is the source of everything good that comes to us, and therefore managing of our finances, time and relationships, is a reflection of how we manage all the resources God has entrusted to us.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
- In the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing as fully inspired by God, and we accept them as the full and final authority for faith and life.
- In one God, eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- That the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s one and only son, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man.
- That God created man in His image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual, and that all human beings inherit a sinful nature which issues in actual transgression involving personal guilt.
- That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice, according to the Scriptures, and that all who believe and trust in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.
- In the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- In the personality of the Holy Spirit, His regenerating work, and abiding presence in the true believer. That the Holy Spirit dwells in all true believers and that He has been sent to be the Comforter and Empowerer of the Christian Church, to produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to the Scriptures.
- That all who repent of their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
- That all Christians are called to a life of holiness, devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and service to Him.
- That the ascended Christ has given various ministries or ministers to the Church in order to bring all believers to the place of Christian maturity in the understanding of truth, and the performance and function of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11; Romans 12:4-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:10).
- That the healing of the sick in the name of Jesus Christ is still active in the Church (Mark 16:16-18; Matthew 8:16-17; 1 Corinthians 12:9; James 5:14-15).
- That God never removed the gifts of the Holy Spirit from the Church, and that the Scriptural commands to “seek earnestly the best gifts” and to “forbid not to speak in tongues” are still applicable today (1 Corinthians 12,13 & 14:1-39).
- That the miracles as recorded in the Bible were real miracles, and are possible in the present day (John 14:12 and 1 Corinthians 12:10).
- That all believers are called to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
- That Christ is the Head of His body, the Church, and that in all things He has pre-eminence.
- That the whole company of those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior have been redeemed by Him and regenerated by the Holy Spirit and form the one true Church, and that each local church on earth should take its character from this concept. Therefore, the new birth and personal confession of faith in Christ are essentials of church membership.
- In the priesthood of all believers in Jesus Christ.
- In the resurrection both of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment from God of those who have rejected the offer of salvation
